LSD Diff strip

Anyone made the same mistake as me and decided to replace the oil seals on a Sierra LSD. I have manged to replace the front oil seal but I am struggling to get the drive shaft oil seals out. I'll try with a bearing puller tomorrow but does anyone know if the bearing adjustment rings have a standard right hand thread. I have tried to slacken them off but cannot shift them. I need to adjust the bearing on one side due to a very small amount of movement.

Oh do I wish I had just painted it! I'm sure it will be worth it in the end.......

any advise would be of great help!

Yup mee too... A "quick" overhaul on the V8 ie new rings, hone bores and new shells turned into a £1500 major job... Still its done now.. Its set me back 6 weeks, and almost blown the entire budget.

Those castellated adjuster things are RH thread. Make a special tool to bear on at least 10 of the castellations or they'll probably break.

Oh yeah - the special tool can be just an offcut of 3mm steel plate with (from memory) 8mm holes for the castellations to sit in and a 1/2" square hole for your socket set thing.
If you put the square hole on the outside you end up with a tool you can use to adjust CWP mesh ON THE CAR.
I once had a diff built up & needed adjusting later, I'm guessing they didn't seat the taper bearing races properly.

Is the ring that tight. I have given it a fair old wack with a hammer and punch but nothing doing. Did this before you explained what I should be doing I might add!

Do you have a picture of the tool you made. I think I have a picture of it in my head but just to be sure.

I'll post a pic of my old "special tool" (missus) but I have to make another anyway - this will be suitable for making adjustments on the car.
They get stuck with corrosion & road grime - once they've moved a bit they free up OK in my experience. after 10 years on a UK sierra they don't want to move......
