Anyone know where I can get just a lower splined UJ to weld to my steering column and that will slide on my Mk2 Escort rack - that's unless you
have to use the donut for SVA???

Rally Design
Or Car Builder Solutions.
I got mine from Burton Power

All the ones I see though are splined at each side.
I just want one that's splined on one side to fit to my steering rack and something on the other side I can weld the steering shaft CDS tube
to...

Spotted two Smart cars in the local scrap merchants. They use a steering shaft that has universal joints. Worth looking at since it might give you a complete system.
I fitted the column downlink with a welded -on male splined section to suit the "escort gp4" coupling from Rally design, but I guess you
could weld the coupling on regardless of the fact that it's splined, but I don't know what type of steel it's made from.
My agricultural approach would say, "it's soft as sh1te so it's weldable", my safety approach would be to weld a male spline on to
the downlink and not weld the coupling!
...or you can rip out a Maestro/montego shaft for the same male spline - I brazed mine into 3/4" thick walled CDS. Surely if you weld a UJ on to a shaft you'll cook the bearings, or am I missing something? and how do you replace it later??
yes, the bearings would probably suffer, another reason that I didn;t do that! You would probably be all right if you tigged it on but most of us dont have that option!
