Ford steering rack question
givemethebighammer - 6/12/02 at 01:10 PM

How do the steering racks differ on the various models of Ford i.e. cortina, escort, sierra, capri

and ... which models were the "quick racks" fitted.

I had planned on using a cortina or escort rack but if there is anything better out there ?

thanks

main differences are the width, mounting positions, input shaft, thread on the track rods just about everthing...

Quick racks escort are the most common though you can get them for capri's and sierras don't know of any others though
hope this helps

Where can you get quick rack kits to modify existing escort racks ?

Demon tweeks, people like that, probably better to get a unit rebuilt as a Quickrak unless you are really good at that sort of thing

Demon tweeks do a quick rack kit and i think TAS do as well.

Tip, if choosing a quick rack kit (where you change the internals yourself) and getting one from Demon Theives, get one made by Quaife. Udeniable quality, choice of ratios (2.2 or 2.5) and best of all, cheaper!

Rally design do ones for escorts and sierras. The escy one is about £40 but unless you're using it for hill climbing etc.. I would try the std rack first, I've not had a problem with it, though I may put one in if the rack needs a recon.
