Sierra rear brake calipers
bigandy - 13/6/05 at 01:33 PM

Afternoon all,

I was just wondering about the Sierra brake calipers fitted to the rear wheels of my car, and more specifically the handbrake mechanism.

Does anyone know how robust this mechanism is? Also, does it automatically adjust itself to cope with the pads wearing down? Or does the adjustment have to be carried out by altering the length of the handbrake cables?

Cheers
Andy

It automatically adjusts for pad wear/cable stretch etc... and is robust enough to a hold a 1400Kg Sierra/Granada on a 1 in 3 hill ( 30% nowadays ).

they have been known to fail, and i have had 1st hand experience of it too.

mine were reconditioned, but must have just been unlucky.

but generally they are pretty good - not heard of them seizing
