What torque should I do my sierra rear hub nuts to? I only have an early sierra Haynes manual and I have an xr4x4 rear axle.

I don't think the torque figures are any different from XR4x4 axle to std sierra axle.

whatever they are, they basically equate to a fcuking tight as you can get them with a 1metre breaker bar!! You cannot overtighten the bearings, there is no adjustment on these, the step on the hub inner sets the bearing preload.

the only thing what you can do is like me, bleep up the thread...(didin't know one was otherway round..)

I tried tighening them up with the old nyloc nuts (to ensure that everything is seated properly). I used my 1/2 metre bar on the socket and a 1/2 metre tube on the wheel studs and turned until fairly tight. the hubs would nolonger turn by hand. I had to slacken off the nut and tap the wheel flange out to slacken it.

The front hubs could be tightened up no end and would still turn freely.

The rears tend to do that, don't worry about it, after a few miles the preload will decrease as the bearings settle, mine have always been exactly the same with new bearings, 20 miles later they turn fine.

sierra rear hub torque is all the same 250-290 Nm all years/all models with the exception of the RS cosworth 88/90 which is 205-250Nm (personally at that torque I would recommend 3/4 inch drive)
