new sierra handbrake cable
JoelP - 26/6/05 at 07:10 PM

hi all.

does anyone supply new handbrake cables in two halves, with some mechanism for adjusting the length? or am i best just buying a standard one, chopping it and joining it myself by one of the known methods (drilled bolts, clamps or bluetack?)

cheers!

also, how the hell do you get the old ones off?!

Best option is to use a standard one and cut to length.

What are you using though - discs or drums?

MK supply replacement ends to attach on the end of the cable (As used by the AA) so you don't have a join at the handbrake end.

But just using 2 small 'U' clamps at the handbrake end is fine and an easier fix as most local ironmongers sell them.

Second what Mr G says - it's much easier doing it this way.

Clamps is what I've done but I'm sure I read someone had SVA difficulties with it.

We'll see...

I got a new cable, u-saddle and 4 clamps from Mac1. Cant remember price but very reasonable. 2 clamps on each side to get round SVA problems. Cable has the adjuster built in, seems to work very well (not checked on road tho' yet).
