Fitting Sierra Steering Wheel
smart51 - 20/7/05 at 09:50 AM

I'm having trouble fitting a seirra steering to my adjustable sierra column. The column has a spring in it so that it pulls the steering wheel into the column switches. This means that the wheel rubs against the switches. Am I doing it wrong or do I have a piece missing?

Have you got that little plastic cylinder with a lump on it, whick goes behind the wheel? This is the gizmo that resets the indicator lever when you turn the wheel. If you haven't got it, they're about 80 pence at Ford dealers.

cheers,
David

That is an essential part ,I left it out once when modifying my steering assembly and wondered why the steering was so stiff. It doesent look like it is up to much but maintains the correct position of the upper column bearings .

No, I don't have a plastic cylinder thingy. Do you know what it is called, so that I can get one from my local ford dealer?

I don't know what they're called - I just took my Haynes Sierra manual into Ford's parts department, pointed to the picture and said "one of them, please"!

Is it number 14 on this drawing? As you can see, it's called a direction indicator turnoff cam and its Finis code is 6091291 Rescued attachment cam - sierra.jpg

local ford dealer said that he didn't have one but could get one for me. 3 hrs later, he phoned back to say he'd got it! 82p. Bargain. got home to find my old one on the passenger footwell. I'd wondered what it was but decided not to throw it away, just in case.

It seems I have a spare, if anyone wants one. Free to a good home.
