Cutting bits out of Sierra diff casing?
Northy - 5/1/03 at 07:46 PM

Is it ok to cut bits out of the Sierra diff casing?

I want to pass the handbrake cables on my Avon THROUGH it because I don't like the standard set up.

Has anyone done this?

Thanks

Graham

Yep, just like that Bob!

Do you have any worries about strength? Is you diff secured at the back aswell? It isn't on the Avon. I was actually going to cut the bracket bit off the back of the casing while it was out to save weight!

The top part of the casing is held on by 2 x M12 allen bolts, the strength is all around the bolt head area so nothing is lost by cutting the grooves.

Cheers Bob,

What did you use to cut out the notches?

Just a regulation angle grinder, then file to clean up.
