Hi all, has anyone had difficulties fitting the oil seals into aluminium hubs.

Have recently bought a pair from ebay for a cortina but I am having difficulties fitting the oil seal it just seem way to big?

I was told they were from GTS tuning if that helps at all.

Any thoughts do I use my big hammer!

i wasnt aware that gts did ally hubs. A hammer sounds a bit extreme though! Try freezing the bearings and heating the hubs first, unless they're blatently not right! Arent standard bearings tapered anyway? With my normal hubs it wasnt even an issue of pressing the bearings in, they fell into place.

Oil seals are usually a tight fit.
Tight fit is one thing , looking to big another
If it looks more than 1/2mm too big it probably is.
You need to drift them in using an objcet the same shape and size such as a big socket, hit that not the seal.

Hi, aren't escort Mk2 and cortina bearing sets the same and therefore the oil seal the same.

I have had a search on the web and the only thing I have found for different aluminium hubs are oversized bearing.

My bearing fit ok but not the oil seal??

What's the diameter of you oil seal?
I'll measure mine tonight and compare.
Possible wrong oil seal???

If you post the bearing numbers and seal numbers they can be checked for compatability.

Hi, I have had a look at bearings/seal

The bearing kit is premier BRT266

The oil seal diameter is 55cm and is to big for my lovely new aluminium hubs"bugger"

Having got that info I now can't help you with the seal!
All I have here is a reference to the bearing (#0609), but nothing for the seal.
If it's obviously too big, don't force it as you'll damage the seal and the soft aluminium.

Would it be possible to get the hub turned out in a lathe so that your seal fit? Once had to modify some hubs in a similar way . Or check with your local bearing supplier and see if you can get a seal the correct size?

According to the invoice i have from the Timken bearing sets I got for my ally hubs the codes are
LM11749/10 (inner bearings) ?
L44649/10 (outer bearings) ?
40 x 55 x 8 Seals
These fit a std Cortina Hub
