PAS lock to lock?

I know that a non pas rack is needed for a build, BUT, i built a Peugeot 205 track car a few years back and used a PAS rack with the ram removed and due to the higher ratio had an instant quick rack, anyone know if the same logic can be applied to a sierra jobbie?

the sierra rack is indeed pretty quick, 2.8 turns lock to lock on the PAS one.

HOWEVER!

I tried to do this years ago and was worried because the load sensing valve in the pinion shaft still moves, and I'm not sure what effect this has on the steering feel with no power assistance. You can't get rid of it as it is part of the pinion shaft.

Not sure about the 205 but if it's like the 306 the PAS ram is external to the rack which isn't the case with the Sierra rack and may cause you problems

well, as i see it, the system still works PERFECTLY in a car when the fluid runs out (it has to by law i think), so it is certainly possible to use it in a kitcar without the assistance. Whether or not it is a suitable longterm solution is debatable, and indeed it probably wouldnt be SVAable. Plus it would be harder to get shortened But i like the idea, ive considered it myself in the past.

I guess it depends on how locost you are
