I have a four link system on the solid axle of a tarmac rally car that has to go on a serious diet.

The links are steel, about 33" long, about 1" diameter with a 3mm-ish wall, with a threaded boss welded on either end for 3/8" rosejoints.

Soooooooooo, what can I make them out of thats light, of the same strenght and thats not mad money? I have free access to lathes and a TIG welder, but have no clue as to grades of aluminium, etc.

Anyone any ideas?

These are available very reasonably from US sprint and circle track suppliers.

Having been involved in lots of tarmac rallying..........leave all that well alone!!!!!!!!

There is plenty of other places on the car to lose weight, those bits are ideal as they are. Unobtanium bits will just cost a shed load of cash and then when you hit a big curb, will snap instead of bending like the steel ones!
