I'm struggling to come up with ideas to modify my hand brake as the SVA man thinks it will fail early due to being "cut" by the diff
moving up and down as below:
Capri axle and drums but not alot of room.
SVA FAIL - Diff will trap cables, apparently
Any pictures of how other people have done it would be of great help and any information of what I can buy and where would be much appreciated.
SVA man suggested I use a rod across the back axle as the Capri did and just one cable but I'm not sure how that would work.
This is may last fail to sort before going back for a retest.
Side view as so
SVA FAIL - Diff will trap cables, fix may need some thought
Can you not put one in each corner?
Pat...
You can see his point,
This is how we did the first car, using the rod and single cable from Escort.

After having clearance problems (hindsight is a wonderful thing!), we modified chassis 2 and moved the 'o' rail up an inch, allowing a two
cable setup.

I made a lever for my axle which runs in the bush on the back of the diff housing. As the handbrake cable pulls one side the lever operates the other.
I welded a piece onto the Sierra handbrake to take a shortened Capri cable.

I would be even more worried about it chaffing on the brake copper hydraulic pipe -- it will last about 5 minutes the way it is. Best if you move
the cable so it goes through the bulkhead above the backbone.
Use a late model Ital Cable -- just one single cable very easy to shorten.
Also the flex hose is badly routed -- think you need to move the hydraulic "T".
Also best if petrol and brake pipes are route way from wiring loom -- no matter how well covered it is.

Thanks for the replies. Some ideas forming. Correct about the other brake pipes which have already been sorted.
SVA man didn't spot that one but I did when I got home and it was worn down quite considerably.
I see the rod but can't quite see how the single cable works to pull it both ways. Presumably some how the pull becomes a pull at both drums.
there are 2 seperate rods, one supported by the bracket in the axle containing the cable stop.
The other 'floats' with the cable adjuster attached.
When the cable is pulled, the two rods pull together evenly (in theory!)
When you see one in the flesh, it's quite simple.

I made it in 8mm bar as it was what I had and it just duplicated the original, When the cable pulls on one it pulls the other towards it. The bit
through the diff is for support and guide.

I did mine exactly as Uncle Henry intended, he even put a bit of rubber on the handbrake cable especially to stop it chaffing, Mr SVAman said it was
