question about disc size?
omega0684 - 12/2/06 at 01:04 PM

hey everyone, got a few questions about brake disc sizes and caliper selection. i am planning on running a 2.1 litre supercharged pinto in my dax rush, i am using cosworth 2wd hubs on the front and the rear from a 4wd cossie on the back to make the car RWD. with the car being supercharged will i need to upgrade the brakes any bigger than 260mm. i was planning on running escort cosworth 260mm drilled vented discs on the front with forged dynalite wilwood calipers (the 4pot ones). if this would be ok then what piston size would i need in the caliper, 44.5mm or the 35.1mm. will 260mm be ok on the rear as well?

if 260mm, are too small will i have to go for the 278mm cosworth discs? if this is correct will the 278mm discs fit inside 16" alloys?

cheers guys

Alex

Why do you need to upgrade the brakes just because you are supercharging?

Remember the original brakes were designed to stop a car weighing nearly 2.5 times more than yours.

Just put some good quality pads in the calipers, and you will have all the stopping power you will need. Unless you plan on lots of track days I wouldnt worry about drilled/grooved discs either.

Just IMO.

im planning to put in a cosworh in a year or two and i have the cash now for upgrades, i would rather spend money on the car rather than other nonsense crap!

308mm will fit in a 15" wheel so with 16" youve got bags of room

i might even go for a set of 15"'s then, is there any advantage of having larger alloys, eg traction and stuff, and is it bvetter to have a positive offset of say 37mm over 25mm what are the advantages of this?

well i think that i just got a bargain, 4x 260mm drilled and vented escort cosworth turbo discs for £100

Standard cossie 2wd front discs are 283mm.

Escort cossie's ran 278mm

4x4 discs have a different offset to the 2wd ones.
