ive got a granny(wheeled variety)are the front uprights and diff the same size, will they fit an indy?
The same size as what john,a sierra i prosume.
I thought the only difference was 5 stud granada 4 stud sierra,i'm sure Steve Gussto knows the answer to this one.
cheers bob ill await his 2 peneth
Hi,
I'm sure I read somewhere that the grannie uses the larger 7.5" diff like the 2 wheel drive cossie. The sierra's including the 4wd cossie and XR4x4
all use the smaller 7 inch diff. I don't think that larger is necessarily better though from what I remember. I'm sure that someone of greater wisdom
than I will help further.
Cheers,
Craig.
seirra,s seem to be an endangered species round here and grannies are on every street corner(mine was free)thats why i want to use it,jus hope all the bits fit
steve on the case.......
Well, as I have never seen the bits from a sierra and are relying on what I have seen on others cars and in haynes manual, of which I have
both......
The fronts LOOK identical except that they are, as Bob says, five stud.
If you look at the underside views of both cars in the haynes manual, they are for all intents and purposes on the same running components and
layout.
I have ben under the impression that the diff is bigger only on limited slip versions, which was a rare option on a std granny car.
As an unrelated aside, you may have seen in a previous post I was amazed that the latest polo weighs in at 1170 or so kilos......my granny manual from
ford says the 1.8 granny weighed 1225 kilos.......my 318i thats a smaller car weighs 1.4 tonnes.
there are some lard assed cars around.....
This is the same as my info on the diff, its only the slipper thats a different size, not so sure about the front hubs though.
Although i see to remember pilgrim cars advertising there shity cobra sumo kit with sierra/ MK3 granada running gear.
JOHN
Maybe its time to have a look at the aftermarket part numbers on front wheel bearings, this should be a good guide as the old granada's and cortina's
were a little different in this area. The Mk3 granny may just be an oversize sierra hub.
Good find though as a lot of MK3 granny's were discs allround, and we know the sierra GLSi rear disc set up is the same as granny ghia's
thanx chaps ill start ripping the old dear to bits when she arrives, then its off to lemons in it
