Does anyone know if it is safe to derust these calipers using the Electrolosys method. Is there any chrome in the pistons (?) that could create any potentially harmful substances?

Alternatively, anyone know a good way of getting siezed pistons out of their caliper?

No fighting now....

I would'nt bother m8 just use them for exchange puposes.

Out of 3 sets ive done only 1 set was usable and then I buggered them.

I use a compressor to blow them out at 150 psi but be mega carefull.

Agreed - it is not worth messing about with older calipers. Chop them in for some refurbed ones - quick & easy & definitely the better option

A safer way to get the pistons out is with a pump grease gun. It wont shoot the pistons across the room but it does waste some grease.

The washing soda electrolosys method works but I dont know what the pistons are made of.

I connected mine to another vehicle's mbraking system and pumped them out that way. Don't use grease it is incompattible with brake fluid,

Don't use grease --- even the slightest trace will ruin the next set of seals --- see the brakes int web site -

As Caber says connect them to master cylinder either on vehicle or make up a simple bench rig.
