Got what I thought was a mk 2 escort rack off fleabay, and today made the mount brackets and they seem to need to be quite alot further apart than the
pictures show in the book. the distance of the outside of the channels on the rack itself are 290 mm, that is outside to outside, that is really a
rubbish description
one second... ok have a look here hope that makes more sense.
Could somebody with a escort mk rack please have a measure and put me out of my misery. If i've been sold a lemon
Thanks in advance
Rich
Mines 288mm. If you are using the How to build a Tiger Avon book then the dimensions are wrong.
Carl
can't measure mine at the moment, but it looks right.
As i recall, the mounting strips of steel worked out as just being inside where the bottom of LC/LA/LB etc joined together.
is that where yours are?
Thanks for such a quick reply, at least that explaing why it doesn't seem to fit quite right, yes I am using the avon book
, is it just a
case of custom making the brackets so the rack is parallel with the track rod end to reduce bump steer?
Cheers
Rich
I would fit the rack so when looking from the front the track rods are parllel to the ground and when looking from the top, the track rods points
slihtly forwards, 1 or 2 cm.
Ofcourse the proper way is to remove the sholck, jack up the front, attach a laser point to he wheel then move the wheel up and down looking how
the laser sopt moves left/right (your bump steer).
obvisouly you need a temproary brcakt to move the rack.
Dump the book its crap!!!!! Been there done that. Just move the brackets by equal amounts (Inwards if I remember correctly).

Yes Mike, just on the inside edge of ld as close to lb & la as possible, the problem I seem to have is that ld is 318mm take away 50.8 (25.4 LA & LB) that leaves 267.2mm which is the gap in the middle, so how do I position the brackets so that they are 288mm apart. Weird...
when looking from the top, the track rods points slihtly forwards, 1 or 2 cm.
No No No mate. If you build an Avon by the book your track rods point backwards
like the wings on a swingwing jet fighter.
Thats something else that needs attension.
Carl
It's only the back end thats based on the avon, the middle and front is mcsorely, which I think is the same as the book, but without the
mistakes, it must me something I've done wrong, I'll just sleep on it and have a look tomorrow, forget that, better not as it's
mothersday and I don't think it would go down too well.
Thank guys
Rich
Mcsorely LD is 318mm and the book ld is 343mm thats where my problem is, with the book there is an extra 25mm add that on and the gap is now 292.2mm
which is ok for the brackets which are 288mm, will have to improvise, can only think that another rack is used for mcsorelys
