Resolved my steering column problems. After dismantling it all, it turned out the column was fine.
The hexagon in the mountney boss was not concentric to the spigot it is cast into. The result was that parts of the spigot were rubbing on the steering lock casting.
Paulf turned the spigot down for me, and problem solved.
Just took most of the weekend to put everything back together.
Oh well, at least the wheel was cheap.
