Quick Racks
mdc124 - 24/3/03 at 06:42 PM

Does anyone have a quick rack on an indy?

They appear to have gone out of production, did anyone get one before they went?

As they are so difficult to get hold of, what's stopping the use of escort racks? Are they too different to be swapped easily?

Yours, probably being very thick,

Matthew

answered this question in for sale and wanted

Yeah this isnt an MK specific question either so it should be in the running gear section. and BTW you can still get them from burton power i believe.

EVERYONE seems to be waiting on Quaife who may or may not fix thier machine in the next month

MK fitted quick rack internals for me when they built-up my exchange rack. That was a year ago now.

Since the MK rack is shortened, I thought it easier to get them to do it since its not a simple parts swap as it would have been if the rack were not shortened.

Are you saying MK won't do it for customers anymore?

Roger

This is correct - it is the quaife machine that is bust

Sorry for the repost. I did try on the For Sale/Wanted section but no-one answered. I figured since many other locosts use Escort gear they might not be as interested so I'm trying the MK section.

Has anyone had any success locating sierra quick steering racks? The ones in Burtons are Quaife units and are out of stock. I rang Quaife this morning and they told me the machine was broken that does these, they'll be concentrating on making the big selling racks first then they'll get round to the Sierra racks. In around Christmas was the estimate I got on the phone.
I guess I'll build with the normal rack then upgrade later. Does anyone know how hard an upgrade this will be at a later date (I guess it's installing a rack and pinion kit into a rack) or is there another source for these?

Cheers
Ali

PS Also I forgot to mention Demon Tweeks are out of the TAS units and wouldn't even give me a date (supplier problems apparently).

i posted a reply somewhere else about this pointing someone in the direction of demon tweeks the make they have is TransAutosport ltd sierra rack rhd kit sierra saphire 92 onward £110, whole rack £145 i haven't tried speaking to them about the kit, i am not at that stage yet.

alister667 - 12/9/03 at 07:20 AM

I was talking to them about a week ago. They're out of them and they wouldn't give me a date when they might have them in.
I can't think of anywhere else to try.

if it's a Sierra rack that you want as a quick rack, then get the internals from Rally Design and change them yourself. I think that they are only about £50'ish. that's what I did, it's easy enough.

Jimbo,

did you cut the internals down yourself aswell to match the Indy chopped rack?

Cheers,

James

Rally Design are out of stock of both the kits and the full racks. They have been on order for 'about a year or so' according to the sales guy I talked to, and he wouldn't give me an estimate as to when they'll get them in. 'They're hard to get a hold of', he reliably informed me. I'd have laughed if I wasn't already crying!
