XR4x4 rear wheel bearings
phelpsa - 16/4/06 at 09:21 PM

I'm in need of a set of these. Are there any places other than the dealers that might have them?

Most motor factors will stock them or be able to get them.

phelpsa - 16/4/06 at 09:36 PM

Thanks, I tried one place who said they only had sierra ones, and XR4x4 ones are tricky to come by.

SAP list them but they are £30+vat per side...

I suppose i'll have to fork out.

I know various peeps have got them from ebay:

No 4x4 right now but I guess it's just a matter of time.

Do they actually *need* doing or just a nicety?

Cheers,
James

I need them as I currently don't have any.

If you have Camberly Auto Factor anywhere near you, they do them, got mine from there. They did order them in for me but was same day collection. Regards Chippy

Chippy,

How much did they set you back?

Adam

Krismc - 17/4/06 at 08:59 AM

i got xr4x4 ones from auto factors for £35 each, listed at £82RRP each

Get the numbers off the bearings you have and go to any bearing company. It'll be cheaper, too.

Syd.

remember 4x4 ones are the same as any disc braked rear sierra ones.

I went to my local motor shop and he was very helpful. He told me he could get them in in a couple of hours, but they would be cheaper from a ford dealer.

He gave me a quote of £40 R/H and £50 L/H! Why the difference?

Hi Adam, cant recall exactly how much I paid, as I got the fronts at the same time. I do recall that they came as wheel kits, bearing, seals, and hub nuts. From recollection, (it was quite some time ago), they were not cheap, but then what is. Regards Chippy.

phelpsa - 13/5/06 at 08:58 PM

For anyone who's interested, I got them from my local motorfactors today for £30 each

I shall fit them tomorrow.... and then I can get the car on its wheels!

phelpsa - 13/5/06 at 11:01 PM

Indeed it hopefully will be tomorrow!

If I can find that damned cortina front wheel bearing

phelpsa - 14/5/06 at 01:49 PM

Found the cortina front bearing

Rear bearings are for an XR4i

phelpsa - 15/5/06 at 08:42 PM

Anyone know how many different types of sierra rear wheels bearing there are?

Adam

andyps - 16/5/06 at 12:22 PM

This post shows all applicable bearing part numbers link

Covers all tapered roller bearing part number for the common donors.

phelpsa - 16/5/06 at 02:17 PM

So according to that, there are only two types of rear wheel bearing, and the XR4x4 and XR4 ones are the same. Which means that what I have must be for normal drum braked sierra's, and what i need is the other one.

Adam

andyps - 16/5/06 at 03:47 PM

What are teh part numbers on teh ones you have? The numbers in the other post are from the Timken bearing application catalogue from 1996 so hopefully (but not guaranteed) correct.

I'm not sure as a) I'm at (boarding) school and the bearings are at home and b) I don't wish to open them as I have to take them back.

with all this talk,

I thought i would phone around a few bearing places this afternoon to see what i could turn up, i was quoted prices as follows for the sierra disk braked rear bearing,+vat and per cup and cone unless stated

£10.50
£13.50
£16.30
£43.12 (per side)
£24.26

the 2 first one were from a local company and the guy advised me not to fit the £10.50 ones but to use the £13.50 ones instead. he said he'll discount for 30 bearings or more,
