capri axle oil filler plug
JoelP - 20/4/06 at 08:43 PM

anyone know exactly what is needed to get this off? Being fitted to the car, the best i can work out is thats its finger sized. Pete tells me its some sort of multi tool needed, maybe a tapered square. Anyone know for sure what it is and what its called?

And also, do i fill til it overflows or add a specific amount?

cheers!

most axle/gearbox filler plugs I;ve come across have been square flats or a square hole.

with the flats an adjustable spanner or open spanner if you have the correct size works.,

for the flats, sometimes the drive end of a socket set fits but these are in 2 sizes 2/8 and 1/2 inch, otherewise a home made square bar of steel.

the third type, Land rover, is a big plug with a slot - a very big screw driver or a spanner sideways will work.

ofcourse you can always buy the proper tool for it.

(on the mk2 escort axle I used one of the drive ends, 3/8 I think, a bit loose fit but did the job.

Big piece of metal with various ends on it here

I seem to remember I used a 3/8" ratchet to do mine, a good fit
