I finally got my Sierra. It's a 1990 1.6 Estate. Having looked at it today, I have just noticed it's not the solid (live?) axle but the other type with diff and drives all separate. How big of a problem is this and what mod's will I have to make?

Very easy, there are a lot of cars with irs and you can buy all the bits you need.

Also I believe some of the locost drawings have been altered to show how the irs from a sierra fits.

All Sierras are IRS (excepting the P100 pickup).
Mods to the book are pretty extensive if not using escort mkII+cortina donor parts, but parts and plans are readily available.

You'll also find that you'll need mushroom inserts to go in the uprights (where the mac strut went and either to shorten the steering rack, or buy escort one.
