Cortina uprights caliper bolt.
Danozeman - 31/5/06 at 05:57 AM

Morning. One of my caliper mounting threads on my uprights has had the thread stripped at some point and a strange insert put in it which is a smaller bolt that the others.

Would u:-

a - leave it with the smaller bolt
b - drill it and helicoil it to the right size
or
c - junk it and buy another upright for silly money,.

If you can get another upright I would go that route - failing that a helicoil insert will be fine.

I was thinking helicoil but being as its brakes im not too sure.

Trouble is with cortina uprights they cost a bloody fortune nowadays.

Very true, but if a Helicoil is done properly it can be just as strong as the original thread. Probably worth a go and just keep an eye on it to make sure everything stays tight.

Well ill helicoil it first if i buggered it up then iv gotta get a new one anyway.

What thread are they?

Just had a thought. I know an engineery bloke that may do it for me for a couple of quid.

Stronger in fact, depending on the material it is fitted into.

damn - beat me to it; I spoke to helicoil people and this ^^^^ is also what they said. (the kit to do the helicoiling is about £ 50 quid mind).

Dan , when you find out what thread you need let me know I have a few helicoil kits and may possibly have what you need . Pretty sure it's a 12mm thread but not sure of the pitch. Can check tomorrow to see which ones I have

Dan, If you need a set I know a guy who can probably get you a set for verrry good money Cheaper than a helicoil kit, I'll say that much.

U2U me if you are interested.

Cheers,
David
