lightweight back end
JoelP - 2/6/06 at 10:12 PM

im looking around for ideas on what to use on the back of my new project. It seems daft having heavy sierra stuff (rear hubs etc) when its having raceleda stuff on the front. So what are my options? As light as possible and price not too important I need hubs and carriers, brakes and one end of the shafts.

Any ideas anyone?

I heard a rumour that Freelander diffs were lighter?

I think with weight - it's trying to get the unsprung weight down - e.g. the bits on the wheel. The diff sits in the middle of the car and probably does a bit to balance out the heavyness of the front end.

You're ideally looking for as little unsprung weight as possible and a near 50/50 weight distribution.

NFAuto do some Alloy replacement rear uprights - not cheap tho m8

Titanium wheels are also a good bet

1500 for a set! I only want the rear pair though. Wonder if they do hubs to match. Those are designed around granada gear i guess, being 5 stud.

A guy on ebay (i've seen) just does the rears for sierra - have a search around - couldn't find him just now - but he pops up occassionally...
