locost chain diff ads/disads

I have bought a sierra diff, but have been tempted into thinking about a chain driven diff (on an r1 locost) there is obviously a big weight saving, but i wanted to know how easy it would be to install, as the engine would have to be mounted the wrong way (for a bec)- would this make balance an issue? i also wanted to know where id get a chain long enough? do you guys think that the advantages outweigh the disadvantages? this is taking into acount that i will fabricate the diff myself, and would go the most locost way about it possible! Which would mean the high price of the chain diffs isnt really a disadvantage. cheers,
Joel

A chain that sort of length is going to be a nightmare. Unless you're an engineering god, I'd stay well clear...

If you fancy an alternative to the Sierra / Escort axle then take a look at the offerings from

Quaife
Muffett
