I think I'm going to go for a keyless ignition - and so I need to remove the ignition barrel and steering lock...
I've done a search but can't find much about it - easy or not easy? Anyone got any tips?

istr it's a case of put the key in, and turn to the first click, then on the side there's a round sprung pin. push that in to clear the
casing, then pull out the lock barrel.
will check haynes now,

couldnt of said it better myself.
then, cut / file the tab off that locks the steering wheel and cut off the redundant barrel housing. It's alloy so a hack saw and various files will make short work of it. It's easier to do if you remove the steering shaft. Just be careful not to damage the compressible part of the upper column.
Took the lock out as above, and the steering lock no longer works! I thought it would have a separate mechanism....
I'll saw off the redundant lock barrel - do I need to attack anything else? Not sure which bit is the steering lock tab..
thanks guys..
Chris
Hard to describe but if you look at the steering wheel end of the column you should see a "tab" that pivots to engage in the teeth inside the sierra steering wheel and hence locking it. IIRC it is held in by a small roll pin driven into a blind hole. Once you have found it a bit of drilling and sawing with get it out.
