I have 15 inch diameter wheels that are 7 inches wide. What are the tyre choices.
195/55/15 or 195/50/15 struck me as fairly obvious, however what advantage would I get by fitting 185/55/15, 205/55/15 etc etc... even higher / lower
profile.
Some I have spoken to say not to buy tyres wider than the rims, other say wider tyres prevent kerb damage to the rims ??
I really confused by what is best for my seven ???
Not really worried about speedo calibration as it's electronic and can be reset easily.
I would say go with the sizes that gives you either the top speed you want or the acceleration. StuartA and I have gone for 6" x 15" front
rims with 185/55 and 7" x 15" rears with 205/50. This gives us a happy balance between decent top end (about 115mph) and good
acceleration.
If you look at the "Top Speed" thread elsewhere then I've uploaded an Excel spreadsheet that will give you this info.
I don't think there is a right or wrong answer. It's just what will a) physically fit and b) what you think looks ok and c) what the
outcome on performance will be.
If you're worried about kerb damage, some tyres have rim protectors which are basically just raised sections at the edge of the tyre. Not sure
how effective they are, but I guess they're better than nothing.

Not really worried about kerb damage, I can park a car and the missus won't be driving this car !!!. However damaging the wheels whilst putting the car on a ferry or eurostar train to get to Le Mans under the direction of some &*$$% ferry company employee may be of concern.
Hehe, You'd have a job getting it on the eurostar at all!!
