gear stick location

does anyone else think that the gearstick on a pinto engined mk is too far away from the driver ie too close to the dash? mine certaintly is! I was thinking of welding up a dog leg type gear stick, which wouldnt look so good. There is the option that westfield or caterham make which moves it back more, but that nearly £100! anyone else experienced this?

Yup there all like that, unless you

A. Bend the stick

B. Don't bring the dash all the way down to the transmission tunel top

or C. Make or buy a remote

Thats with the standard bulkhead because the gearbox can't come any further back

I made a remote which seems to work ok, pictures in my gallery, use the www button below.

I moved my engine and gearbox back about 4" and shortened and quickshifted the lever.

Dave what's his face has an extended shifter design on his website (David Jenkins).

make your own extension as per the tiger avon book. It is simple and only costs the price of one rose joint to make. £20 approx. It works very smoothly when adjusted.

Mine cost me nothing (I raided the scrap box!)

Oh yes - a lathe is required...

Mine's similar in principle to Rich's, but the rose joint is scewed to the lever, and the operating mechanism is under the trans. tunnel top (had to raise this by 1"

Copied the design on Daves, cost me 92p and got a quickshift into the bargain.
