When out in my Indy i can hear the diff. Bit hard to explain but it sounds fine, no grinding, no clonking just the whuring of gears. The reason for asking is that i'm a bit worried that it may be a duff one. Yes it has oil in it and fresh oil at that. It is reasonably loud-ish but not annoying and not noticable over about 45-50mph because of wind noise.

Can you lot hear your diff whuring away? Should i be concerned?

BTW, it's an LSD diff.

can hear mine as well, they all make a noise. should be fine

In a normal car your inside it so wouldnt hear it. Your ears are kinda next to it in a locost so you will hear it if that makes sense..

Nothing to worry about. Not unless its starts whining like a bastid..

Cheers Hicost, i'll get some Active 8 and pop some in just to ease my mind. If the V8 goes in i'll look at getting the diff either reconditioned or replaced.

Right oh matey!!

I can here my Escort diff (sort of shushing noise!) , but I've wondered if the Indy type arrangement would be noisy as the diff is soldly bolted to the chassis just near your elbow with no flexibility to take out noise and vibration

Dont use Active 8 on a LSD it will stop the LSD working.

Just leave it till you need to change it.

Every Sierra diff I've ever heard in a solid mount makes that "shushing" noise.
The mounting onto RHS "amplifies" the bearing/gear noise.
As you say: unless it starts graunching/grinding, ignore it.

A diff about to fail in a locost will make you stop, don't worry!!!!

Mechanical sympathy will kick in believe me!!!
