Hi, might sound silly, but are the drive shafts on a 7" diff the same length as a 7 1/2" diff? Or are there any granadas/scorpios etc that use the same shafts as a 7" sierra? or are all the shafts the same? Ps, only talking about the bolt on ones. Just thought too, what about front shafts off 4x4s Thanks.
Not sure about 71/2" shaft length, but I am pretty sure that all 7" diff cars have the same length shafts. Front of 4x4 are very short, no use at all. atb Ray
The flange spacing on a 7" is within a few mm of a 7.5" so shaft lengths should be the same. I think the truth of the matter, though, is
that there are lots of minor variations of shaft length over different years, 2wd, 4x4, cossie, estate, granada, sierra due to lots of minor
variations of trailing arms, track widths, wheel sizes etc etc.
However each shaft has 30-40mm of cv joint travel each end, so that should more than allow for any minor variations. In reality people building kits
use any old sierra or granny shafts with no problems as far as i'm aware (the odd one out being 2wd sierra cossie diff/shafts which have bigger
cvs with a bigger flange bolt pcd).
4x4 fronts are very different. If in doubt though stick with what henry ford intended to go together.
