rear spring hardness

Hey. Have come a cross a problem with the rear suspension my shocks and springs are the Zeemeride 180pounds and there is barely any compression with three people hanging from the back end. The car is built by book

What have other people used and would the next ones down that are 130pounds be to soft as they can always be hardened up again by tightening the springs. Went for budget shocks to Start with as cant afford some very nice Gas or Avo

thanks all

180 pounds should be in the right ballpark, are you sure the zimmerframe shocks aren't pre-loading the springs too much? Is pre-load even adjustable on them?

hi there is no pre load adjusterble on them. the mounts are all as per book could these be wrong as other aspects of the book has been.

sorry to say this but your zeemerides need to go in the nearest bin.

I would go for softer springs anyway but 180lb should work.

To give you an idea though I use 140lb rear springs on my Vauxhall 16v car (which should be heavier than a "light" book car)

The zeemeride shocks are awful, and unfortunately as with most "cheap" things, are false economy.

get hold of some s/h Avo shocks, they can be rebuilt if needed and should be around £50 for a pair in good used condition.

I read somewhere that Zeemerides are mini shocks with welded on spring seats...
