Propshaft - Gbox Coupling
Dick Axtell - 22/5/03 at 04:44 PM

To all those using Type 9 g/box:-
The front end of the propshaft has an internally-splined sleeve, which slides on to the splined output shaft of the gearbox.

What length of the ground-finished sleeve should protrude from the gearbox housing?
TIA

i had my shaft custom made.

They wanted to know distance from box to axle flange.

The prop I got back has about 50mm distance of 'slider' poking out. There is still about 100mm engaged tho.

It just needs to be enough to suit the amount of movement due to axle and box movment.

I recon I have about 45mm more than minimum!

Thanks for that reassurance guys.
My propshaft was also custom modified, and I measured the flange-to-gearbox rear face 3 times, just to make absolutely certain!

I was recommended to arrange the rear axle at it ride-height position, then take the measurement (which I did).

Thanks again, feeling happier now.
