rear disc brakes are binding on & over heating , only the rears but i have split System with master cylinder for front & rear , i havent adjusted anything & its both backs .
has anyone any ideas ?
iam thinking its the rear master cylinder sticking as its both wheels & fronts are fine . does this sound right ? if so whats up ?

Handbrake adjustment?

Is the master cylinder coming completely back to the 'off' position? Maybe the fluid used to operate the rear brakes isn't being allowed back into the reservoir. You could try pulling the brake pedal back up with your foot when you experience the binding...

I suspect that RazMan is correct though - check you have the correct amount of free movement in the handbrake operating lever when it's in the off position.

Otherwise, check the brake shoes & operating bits for free movement, etc.

Try slackening a bleed nipple off when turning the wheel with the car jacked up at the rear . If the brake is then released then the master cylinder/pushrod is likely to be at fault. If the brake is not released then either the handbrake is over adjusted or the caliper is siezed, possibly the handbrake lever on the caliper which may free off

I have had this problem on other cars after fitting new pads - the discs ended warped and with burn prints of the pads on the discs.

Found that the pads where too tight (even though I had checked this) in the calipers and a little judicious filing made them a rattling good fit - problem solved.

Basically all it took was the removal of some of the paint on the pads where they touched the caliper.

thanks for that , it is nt the hand brake as i disconected the cables of the calipers just to make sure .
pads havent been changed or any other work done on brakes .
so its looking like master cylinder then ?
could bleeding the brakes help ?
