Front Upper Suspension Mount
mistergrumpy - 12/11/06 at 06:07 PM

Can anyone tell me the mount heights for the upper front brackets using book chassis and Sierra uprights? My bottom ball joints ain't arrived yet and I bought Transit track rod ends instead of drag links . Found a figure of 232.75mm off one of Flak Monkeys replies but dunno if thats Sierra or Cortina uprights.
Cheers

Have to admit I don't understand how the upright affects it!

I used the jig and dimensions as shown in my photo archive:

Hope that helps,

That'll do great James ta. With the upright, I was thinking that if I mounted the upper brackets too high or low then the upper bone would be sloping to reach it. If that makes sense? But yeah them plans will be great knew I'd seen them somewhere before but couldn't remember where.

Going back to this plan in James's file. By my calculations (front edge to edge of bottom bracket minus same on top bracket) this only leaves 3mm space between the upright (FU1?) and the bracket. Now when I got my 8.8 grade bolts and nylocs, my nuts (ahem!) are 13mm wide. So am gonna have to mitre cut the upright which I reckon would be best vertically because of the forces upon it. How's others gone on with this? If it made sense.
