Handbrake cable (Sierra disc brake) retaining clips
BenB - 13/11/06 at 12:21 PM

Morning all

At the back of my BEC (Honda ST1100 V4) Locost I'm using Sierra handbrake cables (cut and shut inner cable with some nice SS wire cable clamps)...

Does anyone actually use the handbrake outer retaining clips at the attachement to the caliper. If so does anyone know where to get them from?? I think they're bog standard E-clips or C-clips but not sure... My local auto factor aren't the best- I went to see if they had a Sierra handbrake cable and, after finally accepting that I didn't need to tell him a year for the car because they're all the same for rear disc brakes, the bloke came out offering a Ford Mondeo accelerator cable!
I didn't get any clips with either my recond'd calipers or either of my handbrake cables... Its a bloody tight fit in the caliper so I doubt its going to come out- not sure if anyone bothers....
Thanks in advance for any info

Ben

Not sure there is a clip on that end of the cable, I certainly didn't use one, as you say is is a tight fit anyway and the cable should never be that slack that it has any risk of coming out of place

Cheers

I think it depends upon the version of the Sierra. The Haynes manual seems to suggest that for ABS versions there is a circlip. Glad to hear its not necessary though Yet more weight saving!!!

No clips on mine either. I clamped the cable to the chassis in such a way that the entry into the caliper was at the correct angle. As previously said, its pulled in very tightly anyway, so it shouldn't be a problem.
The SVA inspector seemed happy and I've had no problems since.

cheers,

Dave

I had clips on mine.

Usually clips and little bits like this are cheap as chips from Ford.

They usually know what they are talking about and the main dealers will have a parts ordering system with pictures, so if you go down there you can see what you are buying.

My sierra was a K Reg 1993 2.0 DOHC Ghia Sapphire. Just incase you dont know what your cable came from.

Okay, cheers- I'll get onto the Ford dealer if the cable seems to be shifting with time....
