Have just replaced the dics and pads on the wifes clio and in the manual it says the 2 bolts holding the caliper on should be discarded and new ones
fitted using threadlock.
Anyone know why new bolts are needed?
they may be made of the same stuff as the rest of the car (cheap plastic crap and chocolate steel)i hate working on them they are always falling apart.gearbox are so soft a good job recon ones are only £400.
Fair comment. But your responce was as much use as the chocolate steel you mentioned.
Thanks for your time and effort, keep up the good work.

Typically its because when originally fittted they are put under over-stress. This stretches them slightly beyond repair.
To guarantee the fitting, it is essential they need to be replaced. Chances are that torquing up the original ones to the proper tightness again may
snap them.

Though I would always air on the side of caution .
Ran 4 clios in the clio cup 4 for 2 seasons.
Best drivers would get throught 2 - 3 sets of pads and at least 1 set of disks a double headed weekend.
You may find this hard to belive but we used to heat cycle the pads in . ie run them up to temp during testing wip em out. Then during a 20 minute
qualifiing swap the front pads and tyres and let the driver do a HOT lap.
if youve never changed glowing pads against the clock, it was fun !! still got the scars.
Anyway going off topic never used to replace the bolts on a full stip and build cleaned up and stud locked in.
If they got to the stage where the felt they had stertched ( the feeling through the ratchet as you niiped em up ) then youd replace em.
