Repairing AVO shocks
BenB - 29/11/06 at 06:28 PM

NE1 know if its possible to get avo shocks repaired? The adjuster knob has seized (in fact I'm not sure if it ever worked!!!).
AVO aren't being exactly speedy getting back to me about how much it would cost to repair the shock- might just buy a new one!!!!

I got some AVO shocks refurbished by AVO - new seals, etc. Not sure if there is anyone else who will do it.

AFAIK they repair them for free, did mine anyhow, just box it up and send it off.
Or maybe thats just if they leak, which mine did?

Hi,

A couple of years ago I had one damaged during a racing incedent. The piston rod was bent over at 90 deg to the body.
Sent them of as a pair and had them rebuilt. I sent with them as much info about the car as I could i.e. sprung and unsprung weight etc. and got them to reset the valves while they were at it.

Cost me about £29 all in and they are now better than new with bespoke setup for me.

Great! To be honest, I just want the rear offside to work like the other shocks! I've got the others on 3 clicks off softest but that particular shock is fixed at softest- I think they were on softest when bought from STM, so I suspect it never worked properly!!! Fixed for free sounds good!!!
I know the tracking isn't spot on but at the moment the handling is decidedly bizarre- depends upon which way you're going. Reminds me of the time I drove the Fury in Ireland. I did 40 miles (at speed) with PSI of 20 on all the tyres apart from the right front which was on 9.... Understeer one way, oversteer the other!!!! Scary.... Luckily the garage appeared in time....
Did have a laugh today when an E-spec Merc(!) decided to play at the lights on the A41. It's stop start between the various sets of traffic lights on that road. Lets say they didn't bother after the second set of lights (and I'm still getting used to the clutch!!)....
