New Drive Shaft Boots
coozer - 20/1/07 at 04:42 PM

Hmm, I'm trying to fit new rubber boots to the drive shafts but I haven't got enough strength to stretch the boots over the cone!

I've tried grease and washing up liquid but no way.

Am I supposed to warm them up in hot water to get them over??

HELP!!

try warming them up for 5 Min's in hot water.

got to do mine, but forgot to bring the kit home, got an air operated one the opens up and then slide it over the shaft
should be able to do it if warmed up

Pledge, and loads of it on the cone, you cannot hang about pulling these things over the cone, its got to be one quick yank with all your might !!!

If you try and pull slowly it will just stop.

Phew! Just managed, loads of pledge, wd40 hot water and still an almighty struggle to get them over.

They came with two cones, one large and a smaller one. I used the small one for the rear drive shafts and I don't think I would ever have got them over the big one!

Never mind, one more job done.

Cheer guys,
Steve

I asked this a few weeks ago and found that if you take the circlip off the universal joint you can replace the boots in literally seconds. Just in case you need to do them again in future.

There is a plastic disc in front of the circlip on mine that hides the circlip otherwise that would have been the root I took.
Look at the attached, you can just see the yellow plastic disc... Rescued attachment m1.JPG
