Ok, so i'm going to bite the bullet and replace all of my rattly cv's....
Where is the cheapest place to get new or recon ones from?? or even whole driveshafts?? (lazy boy)
Cheers, Rich.
If any of mine are U/S I'm going to be gutted having stripped, inspected and painted the 'kers!
Fingers firmly crossed.
I know, that's what i did only to have them sound like marracca's. Difficult to tell, I thought mint felt ok on assembly...all nicely
painted too

Just realised, you've never been in it yet...need to sort that out to make you realise your tragic engine choice error!!
Only kidding, have
to sort a visit out.
Get them from your local motor factors.
You can buy the cv joint separately for about 20 quid each. You should be able to either get the joint in a kit with the boot and a bag of grease or
buy all the bits on their own. This is what I did on my westfield because they are westfield's own shafts which are shorter than sierra ones.
Taking them to bits and reassembling them with new cv joints is easy but messy. Don't lose the clips though.
The other option is to take both entire driveshaft to your factors and exchange them. In this case you'll pay about 50 quid per driveshaft and
you'll get a fully assembled painted recon driveshaft in return... all you have to do is add grease. This is what I've done for my
locost.
All the above is for bolt on cvs but should be similar for push in.
Regards,
Mark

Talking of cv's, where can I buy new lobro joints 100mm with 86mm PCD ?
They are bolt on ones...
The reason i asked the question is that my local factors wanted about £130 each side
..sure there must be a cheaper place??

While I think about it, I've got a big tub of CV grease (actually unopened in my car at present) so don't buy it if you don't have
to.
TC
My local motor factor did them for under £20 inc vat - try and get the type with a metal/rubber composite cover as they are much better.

Thanks,
Now for stupid question time....is there a difference between bolt on driveshaft types?? I have 4 driveshafts, 2 from an XR4x4 and 2 from a 2 ltr.
they are both bolt on types (as opposed to push in) and i can't see any great difference between the two pairs, 100mm dia and 25 spline...i dont
want to order the wrong ones. surely all bolt on type shaft are the same??

Halfords do, with trade card, about £65 for exchange units.
There was a thread about somehwhere in nottingham that do them for £50.
Macpa or whatever they are called in Leicester do about £68 for exhanges.
Got mine from Camberly Auto Factors, about £20 IIRC definately not more. HTH Ray
