Dumb question of the day!!!
I am trying to find out the gear ratio of my escort back axel. The tag is missing hence I am counting revolutions.
I have jacked one wheel from the ground. I am then rotating the wheel 1 full revolution and counting how many times the prop shaft rotates.
Question.
Do I have to double the number of rotations of the prop shaft because only 1 wheel is rotating?
Cheers in advance,
The Baron
Yes, obviously.
If 8 wheel revs is 1 transaxle rev then the ratio is 4.
If you find a ratio of 17 or 1.9 then you missed something..

I don't think you can do it by jacking the car up because of the diff. Two ways that will work to check the ratio are:
1 Roll the car on its wheels counting the revs of wheel and prop.
2 Remove the diff housing from the axle casing and count the teeth on the crownwheel and the pinion and divide one into the other.
