A Cad Libary Of Locost Parts?
bigbravedave - 9/3/07 at 08:34 AM

I was just wondering if any other members of this site would be interested in setting up a libary of common donnor cad models. I spend 9 hours a day in front of a CAD station, so the thought of having to model all the bits I need when I get home before I assemble them isn't to exciting. Surely there must be alot of people modeling the same common parts, would a central location where people can upload their models be useful? have a folder of different bike/car engines, hubs, diffs, axles etc. If people stuck to Iges files most people can import them.

Is it something that wiould be worthwhile, or has someone else already done this?

what do people think?

On line CAD libraries already exist, here's one I use for Solidworks parts....

Not sure whether a Locost dedicated one would be a good idea, but you can certainly add to the one above, and then let people know whats on it.

Do you have a link?

Goto http://www.dpcars.net/ to the links page and near the bottom you will find the downloads.

This has been discussed a couple of times but nothing has come of it.

Might be work seeing if ChrisW would like to organise something, but it's all hassle..

I have a +4 chassis with some cymtriks mods done in solidworks. I've also got GTS tuning shocks and suspension brackets, cortina uprights (accurate and fully modeled) and my own design of wishbones.

Someone on here has a really nice rover v8 in solidworks (that I want a copy of!)

If some kind of parts library gets set up I'd be happy to donate mine.

<-- ?

I could currently do with cortina uprights, escort steering rack, micra radiator and coilovers if anyone can oblige...?

Think a library would be a great idea.

I've got a DXF escort rack, if that's any use?

I've also got a Sierra upright, which is dimensionally correct but could use some modelling - in Sketchup.

Cheers

Chris

I have an 3D AutoCad model of the Cortina upright (amongst a few other bits and pieces) that I drew up a couple of months ago. If anyone wants a copy let me know.
