Sierra front caliper bolts
MK7 - 16/7/03 at 05:00 PM

Hi,

I opted for reconditioned brakes on my MK Indy and now it comes time for assembly I realise I don't have the original caliper to upright / stub axle bolts.

Does anyone know what length and tensile rating these should be. Also, I can't remember if there was a washer in the set up.

Thanks

Just out of interest - how much were the re-con calipers and where from?

I got mine from Brakes International. Each unit was £25.20 inc VAT. I would have had to pay an additional £10 per unit if I didn't have exchange calipers.

http://www.brakesint.com/pages/html/home.htm

I also got new front discs £11 each, rear cylinders £6.30 each, handbrake cable £12.95 and the pads and shoes were very reasonably priced too.

At forst I planned to replace the caliper seals which they supplied for around £6.00 but then when I got the pistons out they were shot and would have cost another £10 or so. Rather than go through all that I decided to go for a replacement set.

The caliper assembly comes in 2 parts, the bit that attaches to the hub and has the sliding bars wasn't included in the exchange, it was on;y the bit with the piston that they exchanged.

On my original subject... I've found 4 bolts that look like they may have come off the calipers. The tensile strength is 8.8 and the word NEDUR is stamped on the top. Anyone care to look at their bolts.

The ones I've got aren't blue (thanks conrod) but the ones on the rear drums were and have a tensile strength of 10.9.

I know I can get replacement bolts from Ford but retail prices for the front are £0.94 each plus VAT so I'd rather get off the shelf replacements if possible.

Thanks for the kind offer Jim.

Please let me know if you find them, if they're regular 8.8 tensile strength (or less) then I'm OK, if not then we're in business.

BTW, I'm missing a few other bits and pieces from my donor so if yoiu have any of these hanging around please let me know....

Both inlet and exhaust manifolds had many bolts missing. Similarly, the engine to gearbox was accomplished with as few as 4 bolts

right then russell

iv got a set of Sierra caliper bolts they are the blue type and are 10.9 tensile strength.

I also (still) have a 2.0 DOHC donor sat on my drive with engine and gearbox still there. U2U me and Let me know if the gearbox and manifold bolts will be any use.

Cheers

nothing special just high tensile hence 10.9 and coated in a ford version of loctite

the gearbox bolts are just standard 8.8 bolts.

James,

U have U2U

Thanks

Thanks too to Tim for the feedback.

I used the caliper bolts to mount my wing stays and so needed them slightly longer. I used some cap screws, which were higher tensile strength than the originals, with a thick washer under the head.

yours, Pete.

So is the verdict that washers are not fitted as standard and that Loctite should be used to keep them in place?
