Tyre Pressures
grassracer - 24/3/07 at 06:11 PM

I've just fitted a set of 15in Street Octanes and 195/50R15 Yoko Paradas to my newly purchased crossflow powered locost...transformed the looks no end but roughly what tyre pressures should I be running.
I taxed it yesterday and have been for my first ever run this afternoon everything felt fine but felt maybe that the pressures were a bit high at 26psi, is this about right or is it too high for normal road use ...any suggestions??

i think most people run around 14 to 18 psi

i'm running 18 psi in a cec 205 16's

14.5psi cold, this should give 18psi when warm, set cold and then reset warm to be sure.

26 psi is a bit high, i would start in the 16 to 20 psi range

18psi works for me - 16 was a bit sloppy when driving.

My personal taste, of course!

18 psi for me to .
it passed the SVA with tyres
at that psi and i got a good
self centering at 18psi...

Yep, 18 all round on mine, but she is a heavy old beast, (900K). Would think maybe 16 all round on an Xflow car. Ray

To fine tune you need a temp probe. I drove down a long duel carriageway then quickly pulled into a layby and measured the tyre temps. The average of the outers should match the middle. If the middle is hotter then you are too hard.

Mine's a x-flow - but I do have high-profile tyres (13" x 185/70) so I think they do need a couple of extra pounds. At 16psi it felt like I was driving on oil.

Fine David, mine was just a guess, so you should have the correct pressures, with mine 16PSI whould be like having a puncture
