you will need a support just above the lower UJ, or it will flop all over the place,i used a rose joint

dan__wright - 14/5/07 at 02:29 PM

would think it will need a support on the middle section,
why are you doing it like that? clearance?

ps your steering wheels on the wrong side

very funny...

anyway, i made it out of the parts i currently have and it seems good enough or probably a better choice rather than weld both ends together.

i was also thinking about what the SVA manual says about the upper and lower sections being offset in case of collision.. and this looks ok... so a rosejoint huh? can i just make a bracket out of steel sheet, drill a hole in it, weld it and pass the tube through it?

many thanks!

ive been there.....believe me you need a smooooooooth action on the column, easiest way i found was column through the rosejoint eye,and as dan says, its on the wrong side

The Tiger Avon has the same arrangement as you and uses a Rose joint to support the lower section of the column, immediately below the lower UJ. The Rose joint is mounted on a chassis bracket.

A post in the Tiger section should get you some pics to look at.

^^^^^^ like that^^^^^

err? thats because it is... i'm gonna put a support somewhere in the middle..

pat wot do u mean? thats from the sierra! if it works in a sierra it might as well work here!... or do you mean the middle one?

Avoneer - 14/5/07 at 10:19 PM

It was a joke about the one at the top.

All looks good to me - just needs a spherical bearing between the bottom two UJ's - just like the Avon.
