can these shocks be used?

I have seen a set of coilover shocks for sale but two of them only have the bushed loop at one end the other end being threaded. Do these type of shocks just bolt through a hole with the bush below them? And the $2000 question can shock mounts for this type be fabricated easy and used on a locost? Failing that can the threaded part be cut down and a loop welded in its place?

i think that the ones with threaded ends are meant as aftermarket kits for road cars, to replace the strut?

Would be careful welding to them cos it might upset the gas/oil inside...

Could you find a rose joint to fit the threaded end?

If the rod is the end with the thread you mention, then a spherical bearing housing could be welded on. You'd need to be careful not to destroy the hard chrome plating on the rod, though that area of the rod probably wont travel within the seals anyway.
Spherical bearing housing dimensions are usually provided in the bearing catalogues. If you don't have access to a lathe, the cost of having new housings made/spherical bearings could out weigh the cost of shocks with the correct ends.

Thanks for the reply lads. The threaded end is the shaft end so no problems there. I also think they may be a little bit too long so losing a bit of length wont be a problem. Perhaps I can work something out using the ends of a cut down mini shock.

Why not use them at the back of the car and just drill a hole in the top plate below the rollbar instead of using a bracket and bushes?. I think some catterhams are done this way.
