Diff Breather

Another thing that has just occured to me....

The breather for the diff.

At the moment I have a piece of clear rubber hose pushed into the breather hole and this is looped down the side of the diff and cabletied to the bottom "loop" of the diff to keep it out of the way. I noticed that this pipe always seems to have a good amount of oil in it... Should I not have done that way?

hi mark all rubber hose breathers should really be pointing upwards

oil can make its way up the breather only splatters

but if you have a pipe that goes up round and down you can create a syphon effect even though the pipe doesnt go into the liquid not saying loads will come out but it may force some out when being thrashed around bends etc

Yup! As just said... Having it going to the floor is a bad idea. Point it upwards so oil can drain back down...

mine seems to discharge a fair bit of oil even with it pointed upwards!!!!!

Back of the car is a mess but I don't really care!

My sierra xr4x4 makes a fair bit of diff mess from its breather too, never sure why.

Mate said its getting too hot and that foams the oil and chucks it out.

I was also surprised how flipping hot the lobro cv joints get after a good thrash, you can't touch them and if you do with a wet finger they sizzle!

Thought it might be coming from elsewhere but deffo the joints creating the heat, checked with the optical thermometer.
