hi ive just put the hubs on my de dion axle and now it feels like 10 tons. and i havent fitted the discs and calipers yet. i was thinking about getting the hubs made from alloy or somthing and the axle tube bolt on to the alloy hub ends. has anyone done this sort of thing before.

I'm just in the middle of drawing some ally bearing carriers based on the sierra. I can post some 3DCad screen shots in a few days.

hi short i was gonna get them cnc with the lug bits on for the tube to bolt too
but if your having some made i might be able to mod them to what i was after. saves me doing all the work ill buy a pair off you.

Short, I didn't think there would be much weight saving by duplicating the steel carriers in alloy. Now if they were incorporated into an upright like your avatar for a reasonable price I would have a few pairs for a start ......

My local M/c shop charge me a fair whack the problem is No's
If I have batches of 10 sets made (20 pieces ) the cost does come down by a big amount. But I do have to buy the ally my self and @ £35 per piece that's £700 worth of out lay + Mcshop time @ £35 / hour. I have been charged upto £50 / hour before so £35 is not to bad and most of the time they do a good job. It all adds up. I have spent 2 years to get to this stage the last 3 months full time after being made redundant from a job I held for 16 years. So can not afford to out lay that much @ the moment. If I could afford to buy my own CNC I could sell them at about £285 a set.
If any one has a CNC M/c and wants to quote I would be glad to chat to them about getting some part made.

Ally version of the sierra bearing housing is approx 1Kg less in ally than the steel one I have made which is approx 1/2Kg lighter that standard ford part so approx 1.5Kg less that standard 3Kg per car.

That sounds like a plan - have you finalised drawings yet? I might be able to find a local (to me) cnc guy who could give you a quote.

yep the drawings are good to go. I have 2 versions 1 using Fiesta bearings and the other using Sierra ones.
If you know of any one let us know there contact details and I will give them a try.
