Hmmm, strange...

I bought a propshaft from the same bloke on e-bay a few months ago. More or less the same price. Said in the ad it was bought for an abandoned project, weird how he has more than one. Still, mine seem good, I'll find out this weekend whether its the right length (engine going in on Sun )

can you tell us if it fits?

If it does I'll bid for it.

Does anyone else know if it'll fit?!

If its long enought you can always cut it down - it looks like its got the right gearbox tail shaft - which is more than the std one had - and it would save you grovelling under transit vans.

Tried it with rear suspension in place, at first look its around 4 inches short. The one up on e-bay now is 1 1/2 inches longer than the one I have, but still...

Anyone know how much longer a type9 is than a Escort 4 speed ?

Ta all ;(

Just been looking on Rob Lanes site www.robs7.com and he has measured a Type9 against the 4-speed. The Type9 is 3 1/4 inches longer which could be about right.
The output splines are different but because I'd bolted the prop to the diff and I was ready to pack up and go home, I didn't even check to see if it fitted on to the 4-speed spline. If it doesn't fit I'm willing to bet its been cut and measured to fit the Type9.
If it is I might as well have a Type9.

Anyone got a Type9 knocking about around the W.Yorks area they want to sell ?

I have a single piece prop that needs shortening. Anyone know the correct length? (Going from a std 4 speed 1.3 Escort box to a Timken rear axle off same car)

mark_rayfield - 10/6/02 at 12:29 PM

on e-bay it says it's 30 inches from end to end. If you knock off the length of the UJ and the spline is that gonna be either long enough or too long?
As pointed out by Mr Gusterson above - either will do!

I'm working with standard mk2 escort running gear (x-flow, 4-speed box and escort axle), but I've got the 2 section prop, so I thought this would solve all my problems...

Oh yeah, and my chassis is 'normal' size.

Cheers for any help guys

Mark, I presume then you are not going to race it.

mark_rayfield - 12/6/02 at 09:47 AM

no plans for racing really. Just fancied a decent sports car for supposedly £250!

It turns out my Prop bought from the same E-bay chap is for the type9 gearbox. No good to me, it has the wrong spline and more importantly is 3 inches or so too short for my 4-speed.
Its back on E-bay, starting price is £20, bargain for someone...

UncleFista - 21/6/02 at 09:29 AM
