Zetec sump/starter help
jonno - 7/10/07 at 09:37 PM

Been making some good progress with the 1.8 zetec install until today

i was grinding the sump (mondeo) to get the starter motor to fit the type 9, but gone too far (now got a hole )

So i need a new sump, i was going to get a Escort one anyway to get more ground clearance but is it easier to get the starter to fit or do a need to cut more & get it welded ??

Please help

Oh needs to be a buget solution, not get a raceline one or something

Cheers
Jonno

If you want a Zetec Escort sump, I have one along with pick-up pipe etc. available.

Much cheapness

Jonno,

The starter motor fitted to a 1.8 zetec from an escort with very little mod to the sump, just had to file the ribs flush with the rest of the sump to clear the starter motor body, no grinding of anything. If the sump you have needs a lot grinding off it then an escort one would be better.

Cheers
Stu.

Hi this is a problem that keeps poping up on a lot of the race cars using the std sump modded ect.

The problem is that not all the starter motors are the same dimensions from the different manufacturers of them. Only a few mm but try looking for another starter even from the same original application.

cheers Matt
