Guard thingies on uprights
blueshift - 25/9/03 at 06:12 PM

The rear sierra uprights (hub carriers.. whatever) have a thin pressed metal "bowl" thing clamped between the hub carrier and the lower arm. I assume it's there to stop stones and filth getting into the brakes, or something.. Going by the photos in the book, cortina uprights seem to have them too.

Is it worth keeping these and reinstalling them on the finished thing? Are they important? they aren't very asthetically pleasing.

Ours are a bit bent and rusty but could probably be cleaned up and painted.
