Escort TRE's
mistergrumpy - 25/11/07 at 09:05 PM

Just wanted to check. Escort TRE's with Sierra uprights and the escort rack? Its just that I've never been overly happy with the fit and I have to really screw the nut down to get a good fit. This has I've noticed, squashed the rubber right down. Just wanted to check

They will screw in far and push the rubber down. When the tre's are new the rubber sits quite high up the taper so when its done up it stretches over it and makes it a good tight fit to seal it.

Just wanted to check. Its that far down in fact that one of the rubber retaining rings has come off now.

Mine did as well, perfectly normal fella.

As long as you have a MK2 escort rack! if it is a Mk1 rack (not metric) then the taper on the tre's is thinner (IIRC), so they may appear to push on too far....

Cheers lads

I wouldn't be surprised if that is an MOT fail.

It does sound like the rubber has been pushed too far down as the tre taper has gone too far up i.e. the tpaered hole in the sierra uprights is bigger than the escort one.

presubalby you cannnot use sierra tre with escort rack or you wouldn't be doing this.

only suggestion is to try another set of tre from a different manufacturer as they do vary in shape.

Well thats the reason for asking. My upright is all standard and stuff but the TRE just didn't seem to match the taper. I got the TRE's from GTS so alls standard so my thinking is that everyone else must have the same problem as me? (Upright permitting of course)

Don't seem to remember mine going too far in. I'll check in the morning. Are you using standard escort TRE's? I've used RS ones as that was the information I had. I couldn't say whether they're different though.

Did you sort your battery?

Just had a look and I've got 2 1/2 threads through the nut with RS/Mexico TRE's. Looks normal.

Standard are QR1384 and RS are QR4118

Cheers Adi. Yeah sorry, battery sorted apparently they didn't think I needed acid and should've asked at the time of ordering! Yeah I think they're standard Escort ones, whatever Darren sent me. I'll have a check in a bit. No point in getting back to him if they're wrong I suspect!

OK here are the facts

Cortina II-V, Escort MK2 (Non RS), Fiesta Mk1 & 2, Granada all use the same track rod end. QH Part number is 1384

Both the threads and the taper are the same as the ordinary Sierra.

So you can use either of these parts , but you can't use anything else ie Cortina Mk1 & Mk2, Escort MK1, Escort Mk3,4 or 5, or Escort Mk2 RS
